Attendance
At Clara E. Westropp, we are committed to helping every student succeed — and that starts with being present and on time every day. Here's what families need to know:
Reporting Absences:
If your child will be absent:
- Call the school at (216) 838-6250 on the day of the absence.
- Send a written note when your child returns. The note must include:
- Student’s full name
- Date(s) of absence
- Reason for the absence
- Parent/guardian name and signature
- Without a written note, the absence will be marked unexcused, and your child may be considered truant.
Excused Absences
The following reasons are considered excused (per the Student Code of Conduct):
- Personal illness
- Illness in the family
- Quarantine of home
- Death of a relative
- Family responsibilities (with documentation)
- Religious holidays
Tardy Procedures
Students must be in the building by 7:35 AM. After that time, they are considered tardy.
If your child will be late:
- Call the school at (216) 838-6250
- Provide your name, your child’s name, reason for tardiness, and estimated arrival time
Tardy students must:
- Enter through the main doors
- Stop at the main office to receive a tardy pass
Partial Day Absences
- Students arriving after 9:00 AM (90 minutes after school starts) will be marked with a half-day absence.
- Early dismissals are only allowed with written documentation of a doctor’s appointment.
Why Attendance Matters
- Regular attendance ensures your child doesn’t miss key instruction in reading, math, and more.
